Kay Ogilvie

Kay's glorious bowls and platters with their intense colours and pools of glaze are distinctive and irresistible - they must be, we have quite a collection at home! Kay first felt the magic of clay when pottery was one of the subjects taught in the design course she was doing at Tai Tokerau Polytech, here in Whangarei, in 1993. Kay says she was immediately enchanted by the feel of clay, the way it responded to every touch, the heat and noise of the kiln being fired, the buckets of sludgy glaze that would transform (usually!) into beautiful colours. She is as captivated by that magic as much today. Still experimenting, still learning, still loving it, as is obvious in her colourful, exuberant work.
