Sue Hawker

Sue is a Kerikeri based artist working in the ancient and time-consuming glass technique of pâte de verre, or glass paste. This is the process of mixing glass frits (crushed glass) with a medium to make a paste which is then applied to a mould, dried and fused in the kiln and then finished, The resulting glass work is like crushed ice or sugar and creates a unique and mesmerising textural artwork that never fails to stop viewers in their tracks! The delicacy of Sue's pieces and the illusion that they could just crumble in your fingers create an amazing and very distinctive artform that is completely unlike any other glass in the gallery.
